We’re starting off 2024 with a bang at our PG Connects London event on 22nd-23rd January 2024. Not only will this be our biggest event of the year, but 2024 is the 10th anniversary of Pocket Gamer Connects too.

We’re proud to announce that some of the biggest names in the industry will be present at the conference. BlockchainGamer.biz has checked in with one of the speakers – Game7’s George Isichos – who’ll be talking about the state of web3 gaming, Tuesday 23rd January.

BlockchainGamer.biz: Can you tell us what Game7 is currently up to?

George Isichos: Game7 is a player-owned nation that builds web3 gaming content, infrastructure, and economies that are collectively owned and operated by its community. Our mission is to make the future of gaming business models sustainable by ensuring the interests of players and developers are aligned.

What key insights will you be sharing at PG Connects London?

    • In my presentation, I will try to summarize key developments from last year’s web3 game development landscape and touch on a few key trends for 2024.

Based on Game7’s 2023 report, what’s your outlook on blockchain gaming in the short/long term?

    • 2024 will be a year of experimentation for new business and token models for gaming projects.
    • While blockchain networks are becoming commoditized in an increasingly modular world, we will continue to see strong growth in the number of new gaming-oriented blockchains. Building a chain is easier than ever, so many teams will try to experience that.
    • Competition will increase, too, but will probably shift to a different layer of the blockchain tech stack. Last year, a key question was chain A vs B? Now, we are talking about app-chain frameworks, wallets, fully-on-chain gaming engines, marketplaces, data availability layers, and others.
    • 2024 will help the ecosystem learn faster as much-awaited titles from different ecosystems finally become playable.
    • Forward-looking web3 gaming infra, such as fully-on-chain game engines, will probably attract significant attention from both investors and web3 native users.

What are some of the main challenges you foresee for the industry in 2024?

    • User acquisition and control over the distribution layer for web3 games.
    • Fundraising will probably remain challenging, especially for gaming content, until we find the new breakout moment; a use case that can revitalize the excitement and trust in Web3 gaming.
